This course will highlight the delegate’s responsibilities and liabilities with regards to the HSE Guidance on ‘Safety Leadership’, as well as providing guidance on the steps required to promote an effective safety culture.

  • The IOSH Safety for Senior Executives & Directors course is suitable for Directors, Senior Executives and other senior managers who have the operational and/or strategic responsibility for policy making, planning and the effective implementation of their organisation’s health and safety arrangements.

  • The IOSH Safety for Senior Executives & Directors course covers the following areas:

    • Basic principles of health and safety – moral, financial and legal.
    • Concept of safety management – using the Plan/Do/Check/Act model
    • Importance of health and safety strategy, plans and objectives.
    • Management of occupational risk – risk profiling.
    • The legal framework—criminal and civil, corporate manslaughter, corporate and personal liabilities.
    • Enforcement arrangements.
    • Safety leadership – key actions a senior manager can take.
    • Reviewing your health and safety performance and risk management arrangements.
  • The aims and objective of this course are to provide top-level decision-makers within the organisation, with a highly interactive workshop, using case studies to demonstrate the moral, financial and legal issues relating to health and safety.

    This course will highlight the delegate’s responsibilities and liabilities with regards to the HSE Guidance on ‘Safety Leadership’, as well as providing guidance on the steps required to promote an effective safety culture.

    Having attended the course delegates should be able to:

    • Understand the health and safety roles and responsibilities of Senior Executives.
    • Recognise the importance of integrating health and safety objectives with other business objectives.
    • Take account of health and safety aspects during strategic planning, decision making and effective supply chain management.
    • Know the consequences of failing to manage health and safety effectively.
    • Understand the principles of health and safety management, the importance safety culture and continual improvement and the role of regular reviews of health and safety performance within the organisation.
  • Assessment & Certification

    Delegates will be expected to complete an IOSH approved assessment at the end of the course and those who achieve a mark of 65% or higher, will be awarded an IOSH Safety for Senior Executives & Directors Certificate.
